Stephen Whitney was born ci. 1780 in New York to John and Esther Whitney. In 1820, he was married to Anna Catherine Labar, daughter of Abraham Labar and Anna Maria (Lange) Labar. Anna–already widowed–had a son, John Bartholomew Jr., from her previous marriage to John Bartholomew. Stephen and Anna had three sons: John (b. ci. 1818), Stephen (b. 1822), and Henry William (b. November 28, 1824).
Stephen died on January 15, 1864 in Orillia, Simcoe County, Ontario.
