Malcolm Carther was born ci. 1801 in Roxborough, Glengarry, Ontario, Canada to Peter Carther and Christy (McLeod) Carther.  He was married to Nancy Ann Grant on May 4, 1825 in Charlottenburg, Glengarry, Ontario, at the age of 24.  They had nine children: Peter (b. 1827), John Malcolm (b. August 20, 1830), Angus (b. February 23, 1835), Matilda Ann (b. September 11, 1839), Christie (b. January 17, 1841), Duncan (b. 1843), Nancy (b. February 20, 1846), and Jeannette (b. May 1, 1849).  Malcolm was a carpenter, and the family resided in Stormont County, West Ontario, Canada through the 1870s.  Malcolm died on October 22, 1886 in Roxborough, Glengarry, Ontario.
